Shibashi is based on the combination of certain Tai Chi movements with Qigong breathing. Also called Tai Chi Qigong 18, Shibashi was designed by Lin Housheng. Lin Housheng took certain forms from Tai Chi Chuan and modified them to create a new form of qigong consisting of slow and gentle movements that are relatively easy to do, simplifying it as much as possible.
For example, Shibashi begins with the first movement in most forms of Tai chi, awakening Qi: "Raise and Lower the Hands." Also characteristic of Qigong exercises is the "Waving Hands Like Clouds - Wave to the Clouds" movement, which is widely used in Shibashi Tai Chi.
The gentle movements of Shibashi can be practiced by young and old alike to increase energetic vitality, revitalize body, mind and spirit, and gain greater physical agility and flexibility. It can also help with weight loss, reducing emotional tension and improving concentration.
